Finals: does my competition have them, and how do they work?

Whether a season ends in finals, and who qualifies, is set by the competition partner at your venue rather than by Just Play.

Written by David Argyle

Some Just Play competitions finish with finals and some simply finish. Whether yours has them, how many teams qualify and what the format is are decided by the competition partner that runs the competition at your venue, not by Just Play. The league listing and the venue are the places to check.

What we control and what we do not

We register your team into the competition, process your registration, build your weekly lineup and pass on game details. Fixtures, grading, competition rules and finals qualification requirements sit with the venue or competition partner. If something about finals looks wrong, or nobody can tell you the answer, still raise it with us. It being their call doesn't mean we won't chase it.

Many competitions require a minimum number of games to play finals, and fill-in games usually don't count.

If you want to know whether your competition has finals, whether your team has made them, or whether you're eligible to play in them, message us with your venue and night and we'll check with the partner.

Victorian basketball

Basketball association competitions in Victoria need every player to hold a Basketball Victoria player registration through PlayHQ. A player who hasn't completed it can be ruled ineligible for finals, so get it done early in the season rather than in the week of the game. See What is PlayHQ registration, and do I have to pay the association fee?.

Giving your team a chance at them

Turning up is most of it. Teams that keep an honest lineup and rarely play short are the ones still in it at the end. See Attendance: how many games do I need to play? and RSVPs: how do I tell you I cannot play?.

Still need a hand? Check your listing first (How to read a league listing), then tell us your venue and night. Contact us.
