If your Just Play team plays in a basketball association competition in Victoria, such as Coburg, Knox, Hawthorn or Nunawading, every player needs a current Basketball Victoria registration. You do this through PlayHQ, the system associations use for team sheets and results. It is separate from your Just Play registration and it is paid to the association, not to us.
It isn't needed for competitions run by private venues.
What it costs
For adults it is currently about $50 a year. Basketball Victoria's fee is $48, and some associations add a small levy or fee of their own on top, so the exact amount varies a little between associations. PlayHQ shows you the total before you pay.
How long it lasts
Your registration lasts 12 months. One registration covers you at every basketball association in Victoria until it expires.
If it would run out part-way through the season you are joining, PlayHQ will ask you to renew it now. That is why some players are asked to pay again before their 12 months is up.
How to register
Find your team's registration link in the Just Play app: Schedule, then Game details, then Important Team Info. We also send it 3 to 5 days before your first game.
Open the link, then log in to PlayHQ or create an account.
Register yourself as a player, check your details, and pay if PlayHQ asks you to.
The link is unique to your team. Use it every season, even if your registration is still current. That is what puts you on your team's sheet, so your games count and you are eligible for finals.
Playing in more than one team
One registration covers you at every Basketball Victoria association, but you still need to register into each team. When you use the second team's link, PlayHQ picks up your current registration and shows no charge. So if you play in two teams, or play in one and regularly fill in for another, one registration covers both.
Filling in and One Game
Competitions that need PlayHQ generally allow a maximum of 2 fill-in games before you need a registration. So you can play in these competitions through One Game, but no more than twice per season for any one team. If you are playing more than that, register before your next game, because an unregistered regular player can cost your team the game.
Finals
Each association sets its own finals rules, usually a minimum number of games played. Only games you played while registered to the team in PlayHQ count, so register early rather than just before finals.
Injuries and insurance
Your Basketball Victoria registration includes Basketball Victoria's personal accident insurance. Just Play does not provide injury cover. If you are hurt, tell the venue staff on the night, then claim through the association, which has to sign off the claim form. You need a current registration to claim.
Common problems
You're not on the team sheet at the venue. You haven't registered to this season's team yet. Use the team link from the app.
PlayHQ says you're already registered. Continue through the steps. It will link your existing registration to the new team.
PlayHQ asks about duplicate profiles. Claim the existing profile rather than creating a new one.
Your registration has expired. Register again through your team's link.
Playing in Western Australia? Basketball associations there use PlayHQ too, through Basketball WA, with their own fees and fill-in rules.
